Klickitat PUD is pleased to be participating in the Clean Energy Credits for Washington Families Program.

Klickitat PUD was recently awarded $491,000 in customer assistance funding, along with numerous co-ops, cities, investor owned utilities and PUDs throughout the state.  This funding will provide energy assistance to over 2,400 households within Klickitat County.  Washington’s Climate Commitment Act is the funding source for the $150 million dedicated to the Washington Families Clean Energy Credits Program.  The intent of the program is to assist low- to moderate- income households with the clean energy transition.  The initiative offers bill credits of $200 per eligible household.  The bill credits which will be applied directly to qualifying customer’s utility bill.

Residential households with an area median income (AMI) of 150 percent or less qualify.  Preference is given to households of 80 percent AMI or less. Within Klickitat County, the 80% AMI level for a three-person household is an annual income of $64,800.  Similarly, 150% AMI for a three- person household is an annual income of $121,500.  KPUD customers who have received any of the following assistance since January 2022 automatically qualify for the $200 bill credit:  Klickitat PUD Senior Discounts, Low Income Energy Assistance (LIHEAP) or Operation Warm Heart (OWH). 

In order to meet the grant program deliverable, which requires all funds be distributed by September 15th, 2024, Klickitat PUD has partnered with a company called PROMISE to aid in the customer qualifying process.  Promise, a contractor to Washington State Department of Commerce, aims to assist utilities like Klickitat PUD maximize the number of customer households we qualify.  They have extensive experience in government programs, data collection and have resources and tools in place to ensure a smooth, safe, streamlined process.
